“4 JAZZ BARS” IN “4/4” TIME

by

“1/4” JAZZ BURNS

Jazz burns into consciousness in the ear of hear

casting fire into words out of fingers firing

knowing nothing. Jazz plays on, I think,

in glorious syncopation .

“2/4” JAZZ LIGHTS ITSELF

The music stops and jazz lights itself on fire

in air where music flies to my ears where there

are no ears needed, because I am seeing the music.

I tap my fingers, music asking listening too,

in its speaking tapping answers between notes.

“3/4” JAZZ BURNS ITS FLAME

Jazz burns flames across airwaves,

poems transcending skies dancing

word tip to word tip.

Poems ride jazz and float under songs’

cadence-fires’ soul quenching moments

tracking back beckoning, placing bets smiling,

speaking in robust flames, laughing knowings,

winning the bets’ placing, not the races.

Jazz lights sax’s wail-song burning off edges

like words gone too far. Actions in shydom,

worshipping candles flaming wanting to hear

5/4 time criss-crossing deserts.

Jazz flames burn. The sax listens to the crackling.

“4/4” JAZZ JUMPS IN AIR

Jazz jumps in air, over under, air cascading circling

never pushing notes beyond melody roots flaming

their own routes dancing notes, over under, air

never telling the whole song~story subtle imaginings

left to listeners over under the melody

around the unsaid, the unsung, where stories exist.
